Jacob Ventura Announces Bid for Bristol and Norfolk State Senate Seat

ATTLEBORO, MA - Attleboro resident Jacob Ventura, a Republican, has announced his candidacy to run for the Massachusetts State Senate Bristol and Norfolk district in the special election to replace former Senator James E. Timilty, D-Walpole. Ventura has been endorsed by State Representative Steven S. Howitt, R-Seekonk and Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson, R-Dartmouth among other elected officials soon to be announced.

“I’m running for State Senate to make state government work better for all of us--by sharing a vision that is committed to you, your family, and our communities. This campaign represents a new generation of leadership that values ideas over political parties, good government over patronage, and a reform agenda that shares the values of working families,” said Ventura.

Ventura, 30, also said he has been reaching out to build a strong grassroots campaign that listens to the needs of all citizens in every community. “Most importantly, this campaign is about listening and learning from you about the issues affecting us. Along with Governor Charlie Baker, I’ll help carry out his fiscally responsible reform agenda so Massachusetts can fully realize its greatness,” Ventura said.

Ventura is a legislative aide for Representative Steven S. Howitt, a position he has held for a total of 3.5 years since 2011. “Together we have served the people of Seekonk, Rehoboth, and Norton, and I have learned from the best. Constituent services will be my highest priority as your State Senator and I pledge to continue the excellent level of service that we have come to expect from both Representative Howitt and Senator Timilty.Assisting towns, residents, businesses, and organizations in their time of need and honoring them in times of triumph and achievement are traditions I will bring to the State Senate. My experience in the legislature and all three levels of government have prepared me to be ready on day one,” he said.

The Bristol and Norfolk District represents Precinct 3B and Wards 4-6 in the city of Attleboro, the towns of Seekonk, Rehoboth, Norton, and Mansfield in Bristol County, and the towns of Foxboro, Medfield, Precincts 1, 4, and 5 in Sharon, and Walpole in Norfolk County.

Jacob Ventura, an attorney, was born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts in a working class family.  He is a member of the Wampanoag Aquinnah Tribe with Portuguese and Cape Verdean heritage. Jacob graduated with aBachelor of Science in Finance at UMass Dartmouth in 2009 and a Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2016.
