ATTLEBORO — Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson has endorsed fellow Republican Jacob Ventura of Attleboro in a special election for state Senate.

Ventura is one of several candidates competing for the seat former Sen. James Timilty resigned from in the Bristol and Norfolk district.

“Jacob is a reformer who advocates limited government, increased local aid, keeping our cities and towns safe from crime, and our immigration system fair. With his background and platform, he is the best candidate to run and win this special election,” Hodgson said.

Ventura is facing off with Michael Berry and Harry Brousaides, both of Walpole, in the Republican primary. Two Democrats, Ted Philips of Sharon, and Paul Feeney of Foxboro, are running in their party primary.

Independent Joe Shortsleeve of Medfield is also in the race.
